"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people." (Proverbs 14:34)
"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20)
"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how will it be made salty again? It is good for nothing anymore, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp, and put it under the peckmeasure, but on a lampstand; and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 5:13-16)
In response to Scriptures such as these above, Concerned Christian Citizens has been formed. We are simply that: Christians (from various Bible-believing backgrounds) who are deeply concerned that our nation is plunging into self-destruction by turning increasingly away from God and His truth, righteousness, justice and mercy. This spiritual and moral downfall is the undoing of our country and its communities, including in Central Texas. We as God's people must stand up now and speak God's truth in God's love, while earnestly praying that the Lord will give us the spiritual revival and awakening that we so desperately need in our land!
"It is the truth which is assailed in any age which tests our fidelity ... If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christianity. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proven, and to be steady on all the battle fronts besides is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point."
- Elizabeth Rundle Charles
Shortly before the Supreme Court ruled on same-sex "marriage" this past summer, a small group of us from the Temple/Belton/Killeen area met together to discuss how to respond to an evil ruling that is blatantly hostile to marriage, the family, and the truth of God, not to mention the religious liberty of those who seek to honor what the Scripture says about marriage. After meeting that day we decided we needed to meet again, which led to a series of meetings and eventually to the understanding that God was calling us to come together and form the Concerned Christian Citizens.
We are seeing the Lord bring together more likeminded Christians who are ready and willing to take a stand as the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We are not competing with the churches in this endeavor; rather, we represent many churches in seeking to extend the reach of the churches into the areas too often overlooked or under-addressed: these include abortion, marriage, religious liberty, and all issues pertaining to right from wrong. We believe these are God's issues, and therefore our issues -- not political, but spiritual and moral at their core.
"If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?" (Psalm 11:3)
The Lord has demonstrated already that He is behind this movement, and we are thrilled to be a part of what He is doing. We seek to go Gospel-based, since only Christ can save the soul and change the life (and the country). We seek to go Word-centered, Local church-committed, Prayer-saturated, Love-filled, and Revival-promoting; and we seek to partner with groups like ours anywhere across this nation who are yearning to take the Lord's stand!
If your heart is grieved over the godless direction of our nation, and you are also one who wants to stop merely complaining about it and instead join with others to do what should be done about it, consider coming to our next meeting!
